Subject: LuKas Update: 9-10-99

Look what happens, I wait till I have a reason to write, and I fall
behind because the reasons to write keep me from writing! I actually have
more than one article!

Article: Digital revolution
----------------------------------
     Tuesday (9-7-99) was to be a great day for me. The UPS guy had
called & said that he'd come by that day with some packages that required
somebody to be there to pick them up. Now, we don't have many fans who
send us packages (or fans for that matter), so I figured it must be the
computer, monitor, CPU and whatnot in its entire multi-boxed-greatness.
So I make sure that I get up at nine that morning (so early!). After all,
he never said when he was coming, only that he'd be there before six in
the afternoon. So I camp out at home, refusing calls to go to b-ball
games & lunch outings & stuff, not wanting him to come when I was gone.
Murphey's law and such.
     So I wait.
     One in the afternoon. I pop in Chasing Amy to pass the time.
     Three in the Afternoon. I decide to put in Clerks.
     Five-thirty. I've resigned myself. He's not coming.
     Five-fourty-five. Ding dong! HE'S HERE! AND HE HAS THE COMPUTER!
     It takes till Wednesday for me to fully set it up. I needed to move
the fossil 486 off the computer desk & move the P133 over. But I finally
manage to get the new Dell up & running. I even had to ad an extension to
the desk to make room for the. . . SCANNER! First thing's first, I
download Winzip, AIM, WinAmp, and AudioGrabber. Then, using a LOT of
floppies, I copy the files I want to the new computer. Next, I add the
cache of MP3s so graciously given to me by Brother Rice, and now I'm in
full swing! it's good to be up & racing along with bleeding edge
technology! (at least for this month)

Article: Monotony for monotony's sake
---------------------------------------------------
     For most people, Thursday (the infamous 9-9-99) was a good day. The
long anticipated Final Fantasy VIII was released in the U.S. However, for
the five thousand kids in the Princeton Region, Thursday was bad.
Thursday was the day we all entered the prison called school. My mind was
torn between getting a good sleep the night before to be awake & alert
and staying up & enjoying as many precious hours were left in my summer
vacation. Predictably, I fell asleep at midnight, just early enough to
feel cheated and late enough to be very tired.
     1st Period: AP PHYSICS; Lucky for me, I had an inside tip from my
friends that my most favoritest math teacher of all time was to be the
new professor, as opposed to Mr. Komada, the most whalest of a man you
have ever seen. What surprised me is that his head is about the same size
as mine, but he was a good 200 lbs. heavier. . . Anywho, my teacher, Mr.
Hochschild is good, despite the fact that he knows me too well that I
can't skip the occasional class. But I wasn't planning to skip. . .
     2nd Period: HEALTH; There's only two people in our school who
teaches health, so I've had him for junior health already. Freshman
Health was with Ms. Severence, with the horrible STD slides ::shudder::
Since it was the first day, we didn't do anything important. And the next
day (today, Friday, 9-10-99) is lab, so. . . No health for me today!
     3rd Period: FILM APPRECIATION; My favoritest class this year. It's
taught by Mr. Sullivan, a twenty something teacher so cool that we talk
about comics before class and our opening lecture started off with a clip
from "Apocalypse Now" ("Charlie don't surf!"). This is gonna be the
greatest class ever.
     I have no real opinion yet about the rest of my classes, at least
that I can remember. I can guarantee you'll hear about them in the
future, though. . .
     4th Period: HUMAN BEHAVIOR;
     5th Period: LUNCH;
     6th Period: AP STAT;
     7th Period: AP SPANISH;
     8th Period: WORLD LITERATURE;

News Boxers (cuz I don't care for tighty-whities)
----------------------------------------------------------------
     My other friend gave me a lot of Anime mp3s. No Eva yet, though. . .
I got lots of WinAmp skins, but I think I'm might make some of my own
(MAYBE!). If you want any, just ask. . . We gotta decide what it is we're
doing for Christmas vacation. Are any of us going to try to get together?
or. . . My car was acting up today. I think I need to get the oil
changed. . . I lost my watch! I really liked it to. . .

THIS IS COOL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
     - AudioGrabber
     This is by far the best program for ripping CDs. It can even rip
past those annoying CDExtras. Y'know, those annoying little Quiktime that
keep you from being able to read the CD as just a CD. Audiograbber
records digitally, so you get the best possible audio recording. What's
the catch on this piece of freeware? Well, it seems you can only select
half of the songs on a given CD. But if you quit & reopen, the selected
tracks change. So if you have some patience, you can have it all free!
